Minä en ymmärrä suomea

Hello from Helsinki.

I’m here in the Finnish capital and managed to all of the things I mentioned in my last post. I hit the town on Saturday for a few more of those expensive Finnish beers bopped for a while in the appropriately named “Be-Bop” and sweated it all out on Sunday in a real Finnish sauna. In fact, the sauna was great fun and quite an experience. It’s no joke that the Finnish people take their sauna’s very seriously. At one point there were 18 of us, most had little wooden boards to sit on (I assume to avoid 3rd degree burns from the seats) and one dude even hat a wooly hat on – in the sauna!! Not wanting to look un-manly I even braved the lake afterwards but seriously, that was a mistake and it nearly killed me.

So, on Monday – still adjusting my core temperature to it’s normal level I jumped on the ferry to take me to Hameleema. Although it wasn’t sunny, this was a great trip and for 90% of the journey I had a posh boat 4 staff and a captain all to myself. Whatsmore we stopped in Nokia (yes it is) and then again at the home of some famous sculptor. Apart from that it was pine trees, water and red brick chimneys all the way. From Hameleema I jumped on the train to Helsinki since a night in a Hotel would have required a small bank robbery to cover the cost. I finnished the day with the biggest kebab meal i’ve ever seen and the necessary 2 hour wander around my new home.

Today in Helsinki I did some more wandering (I’ve almost seen it all already) checked out the very impressive modern art gallery and got three blisters on my feet. The strangest exhibit today was a video of a naked man walking in circles in a muddy field because his penis was tied to a peice of rope that was pinned to the floor! …hippies.

Other random observations:
Pub Pete and Bobs Bar.
Grooves cut into the floor at the bottom of every drainpipe
A strange disused railway line that appears to go all over the city

but I don’t have any photo’s because I left my camera at the hostel – doh!

Eddy,

PS, thanks to everyone who’s written – I’m enjoying reading your emails but don’t get too much time to reply, sorry. Especially after waffling so much here!
PPS, I just typed “Helsinki” into google and the search history dropped down “Helsinki Escorts” – Someone’s clearly got way to much money!

  1. Eddy perhaps the strange disused railway is an old tram line.
